How To Clean Custom Hardwood Floors

If you’re shopping for custom hardwood floors – or recently had them installed – and looking for maintenance and cleaning tips to keep them looking like new, you’re in the right place.

Cleaning Custom Hardwood Floors

It’s fast and easy to care for your new CANTO COLLECTION floors. Just follow these three steps:

Step 1: Vacuum

Vacuum regularly with the beater bar switched off to remove dust, dirt and other debris, prevent scratches and protect the finish of your wood floors.

Step 2: Clean

After you’ve gently removed surface debris, spray a manufacturer-recommended cleaner on a microfiber mop and wipe in a back-and-forth motion along the length of your floorboards.

Note: Wash the mop cover after every 300 to 400 square feet of cleaning. If you’re cleaning a large surface area, this might mean using more than one mop cover per cleaning.

Step 3: Dry

Flip your microfiber mop to its dry side and dry your custom hardwood floors using the same back-and-forth movement.

Cleaning Products & Techniques To Avoid

When cleaning your CANTO COLLECTION hardwood floors, do not use wax, vinegar, home cleaning products, non-manufacturer-recommended wood cleaners or any oil-based soaps, as they can damage or fade your floors’ finish or leave a greasy film. Do not use steam cleaners. Wring out your mop well so it’s damp, not wet, when it hits your floors.

Caring For Microfiber Mop Covers

Wash your mop cover the same way you’d wash cotton towels. Never use fabric softener sheets or liquid when washing mop covers, as they’ll leave a greasy film on the surface of your floor, even when the mop covers are “clean.”

How To Clean Spills & Stains

Spills

Quickly wipe the wet area with a dry cloth or absorbent paper towel. Clean the surface with a cloth and manufacturer-recommended cleaner.

Sticky Spots Or Grease Stains

Spray manufacturer-recommended cleaner on a cloth, apply to the stain and rub. Rinse the cloth and wring it out, then wipe the surface. For stubborn stains, repeat with a mix of one part water and one part isopropanol (rubbing alcohol).

Rubber Or Shoe Marks

Dampen a cloth with manufacturer-recommended cleaner and rub the stained area.

Ink, Tar, Crayon And Other Stubborn Stains

Wipe with a cloth lightly soaked with manufacturer-recommended cleaner. If needed, apply a small amount of paint thinner or lighter fluid to a dry cloth and rub the stain. Wipe with manufacturer-recommended cleaner to eliminate residue.
